Transformaciones: la poética de la Tierra de Luis-Fernando Suárez

Seminario de Cultura Mexicana

Under the title "Transformations: the poetics of the Earth," the artist addresses political, social, and environmental issues. The 29 works that make up this exhibition were created in Montreal, Quebec, using materials like cotton canvas, plaster, wood, ceramic (bulletproof plate), and Kevlar, among others. The works of varying sizes are characterized by the sensation of being heavy, which is essential for Suárez, who seeks to generate awareness of the consequences of our time on the planet and the environment.

The work, in a conceptual way, explores the relationship between human beings and nature from an artistic and literary perspective. Suárez's aim is to capture the complexity and fragility of the planet, and to reflect on the influence of our interactions with nature in the processes of change we experience. The artist has taken elements from Colombia and Canada to produce a unique work that reflects our contemporary times and addresses social issues such as immigration and violence. The artist, being an immigrant himself, testifies to his own experience of the challenge of integrating into a new society, learning a new language, adapting to new smells, and even the change in light intensity due to the four seasons.
